How to Make a Pipe Cleaner Peace Lily | Free Calla Lily Flower Tutorial

Step 1: Make the Calla Lily Spathe

Take 1 pipe cleaner (chenille stem) in your chosen flower color. Measure approximately 4 cm (about 1.6 in) from one end and bend this section inward.

Shape the 4 cm section into a small loop, then twist the bottom firmly to secure it. This small inner loop will become the center structure of the flower.

Next, take the longer end of the same pipe cleaner and bend it around to form a larger outer loop. Twist the bottom of this large loop around the same point where the small loop was secured.

Gently shape the outer loop into a diamond-like form, with the two upper sides slightly longer and the two lower sides slightly shorter.

This creates the basic frame for the single petal-like Calla Lily spathe.

Step 2: Fill the Spathe with Pipe Cleaners

Take another pipe cleaner in the same color. Make a small hook at one end and attach it to the small loop in the center of the flower frame.

Bring the pipe cleaner outward toward the large diamond-shaped frame. Wrap it once around the outer frame to secure it, then bring it back toward the center and pass it through the small inner loop.

Continue working back and forth: bring the pipe cleaner from the center to the outer frame, wrap it once around the frame, then return through the center loop.

Repeat this process around the entire flower, gradually filling the diamond-shaped frame. Each wrap around the outer edge helps keep the pipe cleaner securely in place.

If one pipe cleaner is not long enough, simply attach a new one and continue using the same weaving method until the entire spathe is filled.

Leave a small opening in the center loop. This opening will be used to insert the flower center later.

Step 3: Make the Calla Lily Flower Center

Take the pipe cleaner prepared for the flower center. Fold it in half, and then fold it in half once again.

Twist the folded sections together firmly so that the pipe cleaner becomes a short, thicker piece approximately one quarter of its original length. Twist the folded end securely as well.

This thicker piece will form the center of the Calla Lily flower.

Step 4: Assemble the Pipe Cleaner Calla Lily

Insert the finished flower center through the small opening in the middle of the spathe. Leave a short tail extending from the back of the flower.

Adjust the flower center until it sits naturally inside the spathe. Then apply a small amount of hot glue between the flower center and the spathe to hold them together.

Attach the flower to 1 floral stem with hot glue, making sure the flower is positioned securely at the top of the stem.

Take your floral tape and begin wrapping around the base of the flower. Continue wrapping downward along the entire floral stem.
