How to Assemble a Pipe Cleaner Flower Sword | DIY Kit Tutorial

If you haven't finished making the flowers and leaves yet, we recommend completing Part 1 first before starting the sword assembly.

Part 1: Make the Sword Base and Handle

Now let's build the sword base, create the handle, and prepare everything for the final assembly.

In this section, we will build the sword structure with the bamboo sticks included in the DIY kit, create the pointed tip, extend the sword body, add the crossguard, and wrap the entire handle with pipe cleaners.

Build the First Section of the Sword

How to arrange and glue bamboo sticks for a pipe cleaner flower sword

Take three bamboo sticks from the DIY kit and place them next to each other. Position the middle stick approximately 2 cm (about ¾ inch) higher than the two sticks on either side.

Apply hot glue near the top and bottom ends of the bamboo sticks, then press the three sticks together. You do not need to cover the entire length with glue—a small amount at both ends is enough to hold them securely.

🔥 Safety Tip:

Hot glue can easily burn your fingers, especially when working with narrow bamboo sticks. Keep your hands away from the fresh glue and allow it to cool before pressing or adjusting the sticks.

Make the Pointed Sword Tip

Cut a piece of pink pipe cleaner approximately 6 cm (about 2 inches) long.

Fold it in half to create a pointed shape. Attach this folded piece to the raised middle bamboo stick, filling the 2 cm (about ¾ inch) space above the two shorter sticks and forming the tip of the sword.

Apply a small amount of hot glue near the top of the bamboo sticks, then begin wrapping the upper section with pink pipe cleaners.

Continue wrapping downward until you are close to the bottom of the first three bamboo sticks. At this point, switch from pink pipe cleaners to white pipe cleaners.

Extend the Sword Body

Take another three bamboo sticks from the DIY kit.

Attach one new bamboo stick to the end of each of the three original sticks, extending all three rows and creating one longer sword structure.

Make sure the new sticks line up with the original ones before gluing them in place. Continue wrapping the extended sword body with white pipe cleaners, covering the bamboo sticks as evenly as possible.

Make and Attach the Crossguard

Take another three bamboo sticks and glue them side by side to create the horizontal crossguard.

Position the crossguard approximately 15–20 cm (about 6–8 inches) above the bottom end of the sword body, then glue it horizontally across the three long bamboo-stick rows.

How to attach and secure the crossguard of a pipe cleaner flower sword

Once the glue has set, use white pipe cleaners to secure the crossguard to the sword body. Wrap the pipe cleaners horizontally, vertically, and around both sides of the joint so that the crossguard remains firmly in place in addition to being glued.

Wrap the Handle

Continue wrapping the lower section of the sword body and the entire crossguard with white pipe cleaners. Cover the visible bamboo evenly and keep each wrap close to the previous one.

Near the very bottom of the sword, switch to green pipe cleaners and wrap approximately 5–6 cm (about 2–2⅜ inches) of the handle.

✨ Finishing Tip: Covering the Flat End

When you reach the flat end of the sword handle, apply a thin line of hot glue across the center of the end surface. Press the pipe cleaner firmly onto the glue, then use your fingertip to gently push the middle section inward so it sits neatly in the center.

Once the glue has cooled and the pipe cleaner is secure, trim away the excess with scissors. This helps cover the exposed bamboo and gives the end of the handle a cleaner, more finished appearance.

Adjust the wrapped sections and press down any loose ends. The sword base, crossguard, and handle are now complete and ready for the final flower-and-leaf assembly.

✨ Tip:

Keep the pipe cleaner wraps close together so that the bamboo underneath does not show. If one pipe cleaner ends before the section is fully covered, secure the end with a small amount of hot glue and begin the next pipe cleaner in the same place.
